Araceli Tzigane is the director of Mapamundi Música, entity that encompasses several initiatives related to world music. These initiatives have grown to become a European benchmark in their field.

Mapamundi Música

Mapamundi Música is the registered trademark associated with the cultural management activity specializing in world and roots music, in operation since late 2007.

Our core mission is to create memorable moments that expand the cultural horizons of our audience. We present artistic expressions that resonate with the essence of humanity, showcasing the exceptional aesthetic and communicative quality of artists who embody the intangible legacy of diverse communities. We welcome these artists into our family, recognizing them as representatives of cultural heritage.

My company Mapamundi Música has been working with international artists since 2007. We’ve exported artists to Portugal, Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, Cape Verde, Brazil, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Finland, India, Algeria, Cyprus, Uzbekistan, South Korea…

Mapamundi Música has brought artists to Spain and/or Portugal for their first performances, such as Mad Sheer Khan (Algeria, France), Tao Ravao & Vincent Bucher (Madagascar, France), Ellika, Solo & Rafael (Sweden, Senegal, Mexico), Özlem Bulut (Turkey), Gulaza (Yemen/Israel), Monsieur Doumani (Cyprus), Janusz Prusinowski Kompania (Poland), Ali Doğan Gönültaş (Turkey), Veja (Croatia), Cüneyt Sepetçi (Turkey) and many others.

I attend international fairs and festivals like Womex (travelling across Europe, we have had 3 showcases there), Medimex (Italy), Czech Music Crossroads, WithoutBorders (Bulgaria), Borneo World Music Expo (Malaysia), BabelMusicXP (France), Napoli World (Italy), PIN Conference (North Macedonia)… In 2023, Mapamundi Música was responsible for Spain’s participation as a guest country in Czech Music Crossroads, selecting and providing three Spanish music bands.

Mundofonías

Araceli has been a co-creator of a radio program since 206, broadcasted on over 50 stations across 18 countries in Europe and the Americas. Her radio journey began in 2002 at Radio Círculo (Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid) and later extended to EmisionDigital.com, the pioneering digital radio associated with the newspaper El Mundo.

Mundofonías stands today as a premier international program in world music, acknowledged by World Music Central as ‘one of the most globally-reaching world music radio programs’ and by Diariofolk.com as ‘one of the most widely broadcasted programs in Spain across any genre, surpassing even those on national or state-owned networks.

Transglobal World Music Chart

In October 2015, the Mapamundi / Mundofonías team, alongside Ángel Romero (World Music Central), established the Transglobal World Music Chart. This network comprises over 60 specialized communication professionals in world music across 5 continents.

This initiative enables us to stay abreast of artistic developments and maintain connections, exchanging information with cultural agents and artists worldwide.

Artists’ mentorship

In recent years, Araceli has been providing mentorship to musicians, both independently and for various organizations. Currently, she is one of the mentors for the top 10 artists of the Upbeat Platform.

Music contest judge

Araceli has served as a judge in competitions such as Radio_Head on the national radio of Slovakia, MIN Awards (Spain), Upbeat (European platform), Sori International Festival in Jeonju (South Korea), among others.

Monthly newsletter

For over 5 years, every month, Araceli edits and publishes a newsletter aimed at professionals in the traditional/roots/heritage music sector on a global scale. It includes interviews, analyses, calls for submissions, and relevant announcements.
